Average-distance problem with curvature penalization for data parameterization: regularity of minimizers

چکیده

We propose a model for finding one-dimensional structure in given measure. Our approach is based on minimizing an objective functional which combines the average-distance to measure quality of approximation and penalizes curvature, similarly elastica functional. Introducing curvature penalization overcomes some shortcomings functional, particular lack regularity minimizers. establish existence, uniqueness minimizers proposed In we C 1,1 estimates

Counterexample to regularity in average-distance problem

The average-distance problem is to find the best way to approximate (or represent) a given measure μ on R by a one-dimensional object. In the penalized form the problem can be stated as follows: given a finite, compactly supported, positive Borel measure μ, minimize

Regularity for the Optimal Compliance Problem with Length Penalization

We study the regularity and topological structure of a compact connected set S minimizing the “compliance” functional with a length penalization. The compliance is, here, the work of the force applied to a membrane which is attached along the set S. This shape optimization problem, which can be interpreted as that of finding the best location for attaching a membrane subject to a given external...

Regularity of densities in relaxed and penalized average distance problem

The average distance problem finds application in data parameterization, which involves “representing” the data using lower dimensional objects. From a computational point of view it is often convenient to restrict the unknown to the family of parameterized curves. However this formulation exhibits several undesirable properties. In this paper we propose an alternative variant: the average dist...
